I’m graduating from Texas State University in three weeks. This summer my lease runs out. I’ll planning on living in Austin for a year or two to get some job experience. Can anyone suggest any decent neighborhoods to pursue. I’m looking for a location that’s affordable and in a tolerable environment. I’d like to clarify I’m not moving to Round Rock. If anyone mentions Round Rock, Pflugerville, or anywhere in Williamson County, don’t even bother. You’re wasting you’re time because it’s not gonna happen. I won’t be caught dead dwelling in that area; that I can promise you. Let me affirm that I won’t live anywhere in the entire State of Texas unless it’s in Travis, Hays, or Bexar Counties.
Someone answer damnit!
Real quick on the neighborhoods
East Austin – generally the rougher part of town
Downtown – awesome but expensive

Hyde Park – nice. North of Campus…probably worth checking out

Arboretum – nice. more like Dallas than Austin

Far West – a student part of town away from Campus
Wells Branch – A central part of Austin. Suburban feel

South Austin – I think you should check it out. Very Austin and you can get a place in almost any price range
This place has a map of apartments all over town…so you can get an idea of what you will pay in various parts of town

East Austin is where you want to live. It is the trendiest, coolest part of town. And it is also the cheapest. You want the 78702 zip code and live as close to I-35 as you can afford.
