"A new program inside downtown San Diego’s Central Jail targets immigrants arrested for crimes. The program is called the Criminal Alien Program.

Agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a division of the Department of Homeland Security, screen people who have been arrested to identify anyone foreign born. Illegal immigrants can be deported, along with legal residents or visa holders who commit a serious crime.

Last month alone, the program identified 381 deportable immigrants locked up for a broad range of crimes.

"Whether it be drunk in public, driving under the influence, to more severe crimes, burglary or armed robbery," said Lt. Mark Hays of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

The immigration department was already screening in state and federal prisons, and in the courts."
"By next year, the number of agents working in the program will double.

Magee, who supervises the program in San Diego, was just promoted and is moving to Washington, D.C. to launch the Criminal Alien Program in jails nationwide.

In the last 11 months alone, more than 29,000 people have been deported from San Diego County.

According to ICE, of those deported, more than 8,700 people were criminals."

OK, if they are turning to deport the 302,000 illegals Homeland Security estimates will be in our jails and state prisons this year as well as those typically deported, that would be significant.

What do you think?

Great, they should be deported!

Glad to see that guy is headed our way (to DC). We could REALLY use that here. He can start at the Prince William County jail here in Virginia. We have one of the highest concentrations of immigrants, legal and illegal, in the country. That’s ALL nationalities, by the way. We have people from China, Russia, Greece, Saudi Arabia, India, Nigeria, Jamaica, every South American country you can think of… we need to kick the illegal ones and the criminals out. There are so many people here from other countries that people ask me if I’m from another country. Once when I said, "I’m not from Argentina, I’m from Missouri," the hispanic man who asked me said, "What country is that in?"

Thanks for continuing to bring us the good news, Dar. I don’t know where to find all of this, so I am happy to look on here and know that you will be letting us know the latest info. That sounds like a wonderful program, to me. If we can’t get rid of ALL the illegal immigrants, if we can at least get the most criminal elements out and also not have to pay for their time in incarceration, all the better! But, we still have to batten down the borders to prevent them coming back again. That is about the #1 thing now, I think. Seal those borders at all costs, to prevent them returning illegally again!

Awesome. Here’s why: I don’t have a problem with immigration. I don’t have a problem with any culture or race immigrating to the US. I have a problem with illegal immigration. Especially illegal immigrants that commit crimes and clog our justice system that I pay taxes to support. But since when does it take committing a crime to get an illegal immigrant deported? Does anyone else think that its strange that being "illegal" should actually be illegal, and enough to deport someone? Only some of the time it seems. Their is the issue of some people of latino descent in southern california becoming defense when someone brings up immigration issues. Since when did this thing become about race? Yes, I understand that their are currently 9 million latino immigrants in the US and 6.8 million are illegal. Less than 1 million immigrants are of all other ethnicities. Many latinos find this topic a sensitive one, understandably. But its not a racism issue, its still a legal issue. It just so happens that most of them are from one race. Sometimes it is confusing to see latino people defend this issue. Since when did normally rational people defend an illegal action? Most latino people I know wouldn’t go rob a store to eat or steal a car to drive somewhere. But then to see so many otherwise rational people of latino descent defend an illegal act that takes advantage of the millions of hard-working Americans (of all races) makes me very concerned. Are they defending racism or an illegal act? An illegal immigrant, whether white, black, or asian, not just latino, should be deported for illegal activity. Its about time that people separate race issues from legal issues. Thanks for the info on this topic.
