Does anyone know a decent place to live in Austin?

Posted by admin on February 6th, 2010 and filed under hays county | 2 Comments »

I’m graduating from Texas State University in three weeks. This summer my lease runs out. I’ll planning on living in Austin for a year or two to get some job experience. Can anyone suggest any decent neighborhoods to pursue. I’m looking for a location that’s affordable and in a tolerable environment. I’d like to clarify I’m not moving to Round Rock. If anyone mentions Round Rock, Pflugerville, or anywhere in Williamson County, don’t even bother. You’re wasting you’re time because it’s not gonna happen. I won’t be caught dead dwelling in that area; that I can promise you. Let me affirm that I won’t live anywhere in the entire State of Texas unless it’s in Travis, Hays, or Bexar Counties.
Someone answer damnit!

Real quick on the neighborhoods
East Austin – generally the rougher part of town
Downtown – awesome but expensive

Hyde Park – nice. North of Campus…probably worth checking out
http://www.squidoo.com/hydepark
Arboretum – nice. more like Dallas than Austin
http://www.squidoo.com/arboretumapartments
Far West – a student part of town away from Campus
Wells Branch – A central part of Austin. Suburban feel
http://www.squidoo.com/wellsbranchapartments
South Austin – I think you should check it out. Very Austin and you can get a place in almost any price range

This place has a map of apartments all over town…so you can get an idea of what you will pay in various parts of town

Horse Hay to Pellets?

Posted by admin on January 30th, 2010 and filed under hays county | 2 Comments »

Due to shortage and high rise in the San Diego county for hay, the ranch I board at is increasing board and looking to options of alfalfa pellets to stop the increase of board more.

I never feed my horses straight pellets before, so I am going to slowly begin to wean them. (I am wanting to put my 30 year old and 17 year old on pellets anyhow, so this is perfect timing actually. Those two loose weight easily due to age and high metabolism. My 8 year old holds weight extremly well, so I have to becareful about his portions.)

How much poundage of pellets do you feel should I feed per feeding per body weight? *yes, I will ask my vet too.

30 gelding: 1200. 17 Mare: 1,000. 8 gelding: about 1250.

Their diet changed abit as I just moved them down here on base from the mountains up North. They where on straight Alfalfa, now on Alfafa in mornings and bermuda at night. With our own supplement of 1 flake for lunch (for two older horses). The supplement flake will remain hay.
P.S has anyone bought from Cowboy Corral in Yucca Valley, California?

http://www.cowboycorral101.com/products/feed.htm

we were struggling down here in Australia as well. No feed in the paddocks and the hay prices were astronomical.! I have always feed my horses grain as well as lucerne/oaten/grass hay. I have a 16y/o Arab and 11y/o Appi mare. They keep weight extremely well. I use 5 cups of chaff, 2 cups of lucerne chaff, 2 cups of mitavite (pallets) and 1 cup of completo (grain corn, oates, and plenty more). This would happen daily to replace all the nutrients lost from grazing. But also keep in mind that it can cause colic if you only feed grain. We would offer them a biscuit of grass/oaten/rye hay as well. My horses are fat as pigs. I am now building it into muscle with lots of mountain riding. We have very different terminology for our feed down here. I think your flakes are our biscuits. Good luck.

Good concerts coming up in the LA area?

Posted by admin on January 27th, 2010 and filed under hays county | 1 Comment »

For my best friends birthday, (March 31) i want to take him to a concert. My main choice is the Colin Hay show at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica on the 22nd but it is sold out :( What are some other good shows in the South Orange County region that are either at the end of march/beginning of april? He likes Five for Fighting, John Mayer, Colin Hay, Dave Matthews, and of these types. Suggestions, thanks!

LA Weekly is a great resource for concert info, and I’ve posted the link below along with the LA Times music guide.

These are the concerts around those dates that I’m hoping to check out, and maybe they’re ones your friend would like:

OK Go @ the House of Blues Anaheim on March 20.
Missy Higgins @ Orpheum in LA on March 21.
Cold War Kids @ at the Orpheum on March 27.

The Hotel Cafe is one of my absolute favorite venues, but they haven’t posted their late March / early April concerts yet, so I’d encourage you to keep checking their site for updates. I know for a fact that a really awesome local singer is going to be performing there in early April.

Coachella is mid-April. If you got him tickets for that, he’d probably officially declare you as the most awesome friend who ever lived. : )

Have fun!

Land use recommendation for 120 acre farm in Ray county Missouri?

Posted by admin on January 25th, 2010 and filed under hays county | 1 Comment »

Our 120 acre plot of land will be coming out of CRP this Fall in Ray country Missouri. The state currently pays CRP $65/acre for us not to do anything with 40 of the acres and it can be renewed for another 4 years. 50 acres is dense woods.

I’d like to explore some other possibilities of what to do with the land…all or some. I’m hoping to get a return of greater than $100/acre if possible.

The soil is Missouri soil grade 4-8.

I’d be open to various crops, hay, renting out for crops, hunting trips, etc but have no idea how much any of it would be worth and what the best types of crops would be for the type of soil, climate etc. My neighbor believes it’s only good for hay.

I don’t think you can get good advice for that on here. You should be talking to local farmers or a local soil conservation district.

Anyone know where I can find a map of the property lines of Bob Hay memorial conservation area?

I go hunting here and someone put up all kinds of "No Tresspassing" signs, I think this is public land and it is just some other hunter trying to keep competioion out but I want to make sure. The property lines are key. The place is in Webster County, Iowa

First one that shows me the map I will give you "Best Answer"

Go to your city’s website and find out if it has a zoning ordinance map. Usually in the planning department websites in California cities. This will help to map the property line.

Bahaia grass in Marion County FL.?

Posted by admin on December 24th, 2009 and filed under hays county | 2 Comments »

I moved here over last summer. My yard is patchy grass over sand. I planted bahai 3 weeks ago. Not sure what kind, bought at hardware store. When will it grow? Plus does it need to be covered? Can hay work as a cover since I’m patching? Also what grass will work under pine and oak trees?

your yard is patchy because it is the dormant period but in a few weeks it should start to grow should we be able to get some rain.. (drought for the past 2 yrs in Fla)

When seeding the lawn that way you did, you need extreme watering for the seeds to germinate the best light cover for the seed would be top soil.. hay and pine needles will only kill the grass they act as mulch. Solution for oak is planting xeriscape (i.e. liriope) around that area.. Solution for the pine is planting acid loving azaleas. With the pine needles, no grass can survive under the pine unless full sun coverage under and perfect position for exposure.

Wow…just wow. I could accept this as a Traditional deck if you followed the Limited list for the format. Believe it or not there are restricted cards in Traditional and your deck is illegal because it doesn’t follow those restrictions. Here’s the list for reference: http://entertainment.upperdeck.com/yugioh/en/gameplay/forbidden/traditional_current_new.aspx Also, there are plenty of Texan players who are better than you. Jason Holloway, winner of SJC Nashville, for example.

Anyway, your deck stinks. Even if it followed normal deck building conventions it sucks. There are better things to play with in Traditional than what you have. If you’re going to play a Traditional deck why not go all out and play good cards like Yata Garasu or Chaos Emperor Dragon? I give it an F…for fail, flagrant fallacy, and a finite future.
